Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is life-threatening complication that affects 2 to 5 million cases per year in the United States. Diagnosis of DVT is challenging and not always clear. This seminar assesses the efficacy of different imaging modalities, including contrast venography, CT, MRI, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine venography, and nuclear medicine polypeptide imaging.

Diagnosing and Management of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (ID: AB0090)

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the ICU. This seminar will help the participant understand the importance of appropriate antibiotics in empiric therapy of VAP, understand the limitations of using cephalosporins as the main empiric therapy for VAP, and help the learner design strategies to limit the rate of multi-drug resistant bacteria in the ICU.

Incidence and Management of Anemia (ID: AB0105)

Anemia is common in the critically ill. By intensive care unit (ICU) day 3, approximately 95 percent of patients have hemoglobin concentrations below normal. This seminar will review the challenges physicians face when treating patients with anemia in the ICU.
